In our experience, we've discovered our patients have many questions. We love curious patients who want to know more about us and the procedures we provide. Here are just a few of the more commonly asked questions we've heard over the years, but if there's a question here we haven't answered, please feel free to call us to find out more. Perhaps we'll even add it to our list below!

How does the doctor keep up to date on all of the current techniques and materials?

Dr. Kaplan is a big believer in continuing his education beyond dental school because the field of dentistry is rapidly changing, and it is imperative practitioners keep up-to-date. He subscribes to all the important dental journals and attends dental meetings and continuing education courses regularly.

Can you show me what my smile can look like ahead of time?

Of course we can. After we determine which treatment plan you'd like to follow, we provide a "mock" treatment. We take temporary material and put it on your teeth to show you what the end result will look like. This gives you a chance to see your smile in the mirror and talk about it at home or work to your friends and family.

Do you accept referrals?

Yes we do. To us, referring a family member or friend to our dental practice is the highest compliment you can give us. Thank you! We always look forward to providing the same excellent care and service to people you know.

Do you accept my insurance plan?

Your best bet is to talk to one of our administrative staff in person. But generally, we accept most types of dental insurance. If you are able to pay for dental treatment in full, you'll receive a cash-courtesy discount. We also accept most credit cards. Otherwise, we offer a few dental payments plans with low- or no-interest.

What do I do if I have an emergency when the office closed?

When you call our regular office number, you'll hear the emergency number you need to dial. Once you call that number, you will be paging Dr. Kaplan who will get back to you right away.

How do I know it's time for a checkup?

We will schedule you ahead of time for your next cleaning and check-up, and our staff will follow-up with you to make sure you are aware of your next appointment.

How can I have whiter teeth?

Most whitening methods are considered safe today, especially if performed under the supervision of a dentist, and we offer a variety for you to choose from--everything from a one-hour, very dramatic, in-office procedure to an at-home version that works more gradually, taking about two weeks. The results are about the same. Some of our clients are very busy and want to go back to work with a gleaming smile, while others have more time available.

One telltale sign it's a good time for you to whiten your teeth is if you're embarrassed to smile because of the color of your teeth. Yellowish teeth are the result of years of coffee or tea drinking, and/or smoking. Greenish teeth are usually the result of tetracycline exposure as a child. If that's the case, there is no reason to suffer any embarrassment because of the shade of your teeth. There is an easy and efficient way to whiten your teeth---up to nine shades lighter. Try it.

My gums bleed after I brush. Is this something to be concerned about?

Yes it is. Bleeding is not a sign of optimal oral health. In fact, it's a sign of infection in the gums or perhaps even in the bone. Our goal is have you keep your teeth healthy for a lifetime. That's why we have instituted non-surgical periodontal treatment to help you achieve this.

I want my front teeth to look better, but I don't want to wear braces. What would you recommend?

Braces aren't the only cure for crooked teeth anymore, especially for adults. For many adult patients, porcelain veneers can do wonders. The placement of porcelain veneers is a procedure that might take only two or three visits with instantaneous results, versus braces, which might take about two years to provide comparable results.
